UCF's CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Education Program meets the needs of professionals who plan, assess, and evaluate a client's financial future through the development of a comprehensive financial plan. Our program's courses are taught by financial service professionals who provide current information in a variety of financial planning areas.
Individuals who successfully complete our program will fulfill the CFP Board 270 contact hour minimum education requirement and become eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Exam.

Tim Hummel, CFP®
A native of Central Florida, Tim obtained his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Central Florida. He passed the CFP® Certification Examination in November 2005 and currently holds series 7, 24, and 66 security and investment licenses as well as his 2-15 insurance license for the State of Florida. Tim is also licensed for securities and insurance in various states across the country.
Prior to joining SFM, Tim owned and operated a financial planning firm for over 10 years with divisions concentrating in financial planning, group benefits, individual insurance, and investments. Tim currently instructs the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Education Program at the University of Central Florida and at various locations across the country through Tallahassee Community College. In addition, he travels the country teaching continuing education courses and has presented to the following groups: Ameriprise Financial, Charles Schwab, and local Financial Planning Association chapters.
Zahn Associates, Inc
In partnership with UCF Continuing Education, Zahn Associates, Inc. offers quality educational materials to financial professionals to assist in their journey to become a CFP® professional.
There are no formal admission requirements to register for the UCF's CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Education Program but students should have acquired knowledge in accounting, financial calculator protocol, finance, and economics, through extensive education and professional work experience.
Candidates are required to have the following completed before obtaining the CFP® certification:
A bachelor's degree (or higher), or its equivalent,1 in any discipline, from an accredited college or university2 is required to attain CFP® certification. The bachelor's degree requirement is a condition of initial certification; it is not a requirement to be eligible to take the CFP® Certification Examination. After you pass the CFP® Certification Examination, you will be required to provide evidence (official transcript from the degree-granting institution) that you hold a qualified bachelor's degree or higher degree.
You have five years from the date you pass the CFP®® certification examination to satisfy the bachelor's degree and work experience requirements. If you have not reported to CFP Board your attainment of an acceptable bachelor's degree or higher within this time frame, your candidacy for CFP® certification may be terminated. A one-time, three year extension may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
COMPLETE THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
UCF's CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Education Program is a CFP Board-Registered Program. Our curriculum fulfills the CFP Board's 270 contact hour minimum education requirement. Individuals who complete our course will be eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Exam.
MEET THE EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
3 Year Option
A total of three years full time qualifying experience, or the equivalent 6,000 hours, is required to satisfy the 3 year Experience Requirement.
Qualifying experience for CFP® Certification must satisfy a two-part requirement.
2 Year Apprenticeship Option
CFP Board's Experience requirement may be satisfied by completing two years full-time, or the equivalent 4,000 hours of Apprenticeship Experience.
Qualifying experience for the CFP® Certification must satisfy a three-part requirement.

CFP® professionals agree to adhere to the high standards of ethics and practice outline in CFP Board's Standards of Professional Conduct and to acknowledge CFP Board's right to enforce them through its Disciplinary Rules and Procedures.
When you have completed the education, examination, and experience components of the CFP® certification process, you will be directed to complete a CFP® Certification Application on which you will need to disclose information about your background, including your involvement in any criminal, civil, governmental, or self-regulatory agency proceeding by your employer or firm. CFP Board conducts a detailed background check for all candidates, including review of any disclosures made on the CFP® Certification Application. Matters that may or will bar you from obtaining certification are investigated in accordance with CFP Board's Disciplinary Rules and Procedures. Authorization to use the CFP® marks will not be approved until the background check and any investigations are concluded successfully.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and CFP® in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete the CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements.

Regular Individual Course Registration Fee
Students may register for individual courses. Each course cost $850, which includes your registration fee, textbooks, and workbooks. Course fees must be paid in full at the time of registration.
Regular Series Registration Fee
Students who register for all seven courses will receive a $300 discount on the Capstone (FP700) course.
UCF Alumni/FPA Member* Individual Course Registration Fee
UCF Alumni and FPA members receive a $50 discount when they register for individual courses.

We ask all students to register for our program at least one week prior to the course start date. By registering one week in advance, our office has enough time to ensure the student's textbook and course materials are delivered by the first class session.

This course is designed to provide a review of the previous six courses in the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Education Program and to prepare students for the CFP® Certification Exam. For a full course description, please visit the "Curriculum" tab.
Currently, our CFP® Certification Education Program is not offered online. Our program is offered live with face-to-face instruction.
Each CFP® Certification Education course fee includes textbook and workbook materials.
After you have registered and paid for the General Principles of Financial Planning (FP100) course, your course textbook and workbook materials will be delivered to the address listed on your CFP Registration Form. Course textbooks and workbook materials for all other courses will be delivered to our office and distributed to you at the last session of your prior course (i.e. Insurance Planning (FP200) course textbooks and workbook materials will be given to you at the last session of General Principles of Financial Planning (FP100).
Students need to purchase a calculator by the first session. Our instructors recommend purchasing one of the following calculators: HP10BII or HP12C. Please click here for additional information and details about the calculators.
It is required that students attend ALL sessions in order to receive a grade for the course. If you are unable to attend a class (pre-arranged or sick), you must notify UCF Continuing Education and the instructor in order to arrange make-up assignments. This is a non-credit certification education program and most financial assistance providers will only provide funds for college credit courses. You will need to contact a financial aid provider to verify if the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Education Program will qualify for financial assistance. This program, however, does qualify for unemployment grants from CareerSource Brevard, CareerSource Central Florida, and GI Bills for Veterans. You will need to contact the necessary provider to submit appropriate documentation to qualify. Please see the "Schedule and Fees" Tab for other payment options.
Currently, UCF's CFP® Certification Education Program and UCF's MBA program are independent. If in the future the programs become related, the information will be posted on our website and all those who have contacted us regarding this matter will receive the updated information.

The CFP Board requires successful completion of all six courses and the Capstone course.
If the student has completed all program courses at UCF, UCF Continuing Education is responsible for submitting each student's completed information to the CFP Board. If the student has completed some coursework with another provider, UCF will only provide certificates for those courses completed at UCF. Students who have not completed the entire program with UCF will be required to submit all of their certificates directly to the CFP Board.
