Financial Support
2009 AP Fellows Program
The College Board AP Fellows program is an annual competitive grant program that provides scholarships for secondary school teachers planning to teach AP courses in schools that serve minority and/or low-income students who have been traditionally underrepresented in AP courses. The scholarships assist teachers with the cost of attending an AP Summer Institute. For a teacher to qualify, one of these must be true of the teacher's school:
- Fifty percent or more of the student population must consist of traditionally underrepresented students of color (African American, Hispanic, or Native American)
- Fifty percent or more of the student population must consist of students whose average family income level is equivalent to, or below, the national annual average for a low-income family of four (approximately $36,000)
The Summer Institutes provide an excellent opportunity for teachers to gain command of a specific AP subject and to receive up-to-date information on the latest curriculum changes. Each 2009 College Board AP Fellow will be offered a scholarship of $1,000 to attend a College Board–endorsed AP Summer Institute.
AP Incentive Program
Additional resources may be available for AP teacher professional development through state and federal funds. Since 1998, federal and state legislators committed to equity and excellence in education have shown tremendous support for the Advanced Placement Program by providing funds in the form of AP incentive grants to support teacher professional development.
To date, approximately 30 states provide funding opportunities for AP teachers to seek professional development. The states include Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Due to changing legislation, funding may also be available in other states.
Preference may be given to applicants who are not eligible for state or federal AP teacher professional development funds. Learn about the Advanced Placement Incentive Program.

Florida Partnership
Due to changes in the Florida Partnership program, only participants from designated schools will be eligible to receive scholarships to attend the AP Summer Institute.
In addition to the tuition scholarship, each scholarship recipient is eligible for a $250 stipend for completing the Institute. Scholarship recipients are also eligible to have expenses covered by the State of Florida for teachers traveling to an Institute outside of the district in which they teach and/or reside. These reimbursable expenses will include actual travel expenses, based on $100 per day for an Institute total of $500 for the five days. Expense and stipend forms are available in the Florida Partnership AP Summer Institute Brochure, will be given to you at the Institute site this summer and will also be available online at www.collegeboard.org/floridapartnership.
