Summer English Studies Institute

This summer we invite you to join six UCF English faculty for a week of workshops designed to stimulate lively conversation and invigorating curriculum ideas. 

Literature

  • Edwidge Danticat: A Haitian American Literary Voice, Dr. Kevin Meehan
  • Approaching Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet Historically, Dr. Kate Giglio
  • Nature and Environment in Modern Literature:  Introduction to Ecocriticism, Dr. Patrick Murphy

Rhetoric and Writing

  • Using Classical Rhetoric to Teach Analysis and Production of Arguments, Dr. Blake Scott
  • Improving Students’ Critical Thinking Skills, Dr. Dan Jones

Linguistics

  • Grammar Update, Dr. Beth Rapp Young

 

Summer English Institute

Meeting Place:  UCF Orlando Campus

Meeting Times:  Monday – Friday; 9:00 am – 3:00 pm  (includes
                               an hour for individual lunch)

Costs:  $400 plus required texts; fee includes campus parking
              MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, School               Purchase Order

CEUs:  Each participant will receive a certificate awarding 30 hours of professional development credit
