Cyber Security Programs in High Demand
The Cyber Defense Professional Certificate program offered by UCF Continuing Education in partnership with one of the world’s leading Cyber Education providers, HackerU, has seen unprecedented demand. The program addresses global shortage of highly-trained professionals to safeguard against growing digital threats and prepare students with the skills and experience necessary to thrive in this fast-growing field. The program begins with a 30-hour trial course that introduces students to defensive cybersecurity. This introductory course vets students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities to ensure they are a good fit for the intense 360-hour curriculum. At the end of the program, students will have access to career services, professional development, business networking, and receive assistance with job and internship placement with leading security organizations. The program is designed to accommodate working professionals with part-time courses taught during evenings and weekends.
The first Cyber Defense cohort launched on July 2019 with 60 students enrolling in trial courses and 36 meeting the requirements to continue on to the extended program. One of the students, Gilberto Salgado, a retired engineer with AT&T, offers his insight into the program: "The Cyber Security HackerU/UCF program has exceeded my expectations...The hands-on labs have been monumental in taking the lectures to a new level, in other words, not only do I just memorize what I have learned I now can perform the different concepts hands-on as if I were in a real world enterprise scenario. The instructors do a fantastic job covering the material with their real world experience to back it up and the concepts are repeated throughout the course in a manner that makes it simple to remember. On a final note I give this program a thumbs up because it covers a broad range of topics that will ensure that I am a well-rounded IT security individual. I highly recommend this program to anyone wanting to enter the Cyber Security world."
Since the announcement that the program will be offered at UCF Continuing Education office in Research Park in January, enrollment numbers have been growing fast. UCF CE is planning to introduce a second cyber certificate program, 210-hour Ethical Hacking course next year.
