Fundamentals of Online Teaching - 6th-12th

Online and Self-paced.  Enroll any time and complete within 3 months.

Presented by UCF Continuing Education.

Designing a quality online course for the first time can be overwhelming.  Fundamentals of Online Teaching for middle and high school (FOOT-6/12) is a three month course designed to prepare you to quickly design and deliver a successful, quality blended/hybrid or fully online course that is grounded in core online learning best practices and research. This course is fully online with no synchronous class meeting requirements.

WHO SHOULD ENROLL?

This program is tailored to higher education faculty and instructors who are, will be, or wish to teach online or blended courses.

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

  • 100% online program consisting of go 7 self-paced modules.
  • Each module is delivered online, can be taken independently, and is delivered asynchronously.
  • Relevant and rich content offers student learning, demonstration, and practice on key online instructional information.
  • Modules include knowledge and comprehension as well as real-world scenarios.
  • Each module has learning objectives and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards for Educators to guide the lessons, an introduction, course content, case scenario, organizational assessments, and a quiz.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to communicate directly with course instructors for additional feedback.

PROGRAM MODULES

Mod 1: Designing Your Online Course

Learn the basic philosophies of course design, identify the science of learning, differentiate between learning goals, competencies, and objectives, recognize relevant course objectives, create learner-centered outcomes using educational research principles,

Mod 2: Assessing Student Learning

Differentiate between diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments, identify student-centered assessments, and explore educational technology tools and strategies for promoting academic honesty assessments.

Mod 3: Learning Experiences & Instruction

Discover the various state and federal policies concerning copyright laws and accessibility compliance. Identify interactive learning, content resources, and open/free resources.

Mod 4: Enhancing Your Online Course with Multimedia and Technology

Update your learning objectives to include multimedia learning, discover quality online graphics, and existing and self-produced videos. Uncover personalized learning and online writing tools, as well as how to incorporate social media and networking into your courses.

Mod 5: Facilitating Your Online Course

Define and create your own online presence while implementing and using them to foster student support.

Mod 6: Course Building Strategies, Samples, and Templates

Explore samples of successful online teaching strategies and designs. Identify the elements of an effective course syllabus, homepage, and Getting Started module to welcome and orient your students. Design and develop authentic assessments and develop an instructional module using Backwards Design.

Mod 7: Preparation to TEACH Your Online/Blended Course

Explore tips and strategies to prepare your course for implementation and instruction.
