Instructor Biography

Kathey K. Porter, MBA, CPSD, Principal, Porter Brown Associates

Kathey K. Porter, MBA, CPSD, Principal, Porter Brown Associates Kathey is a sought-after subject matter expert and frequent speaker, panelist and workshop facilitator at conferences and events focusing on supplier diversity, small business development/entrepreneurship, women’s entrepreneurship and empowerment and diversity and inclusion for audiences at EY, Interise, Inc Magazine’s Inc 5000, Essence Festival and The Conference Board, to name a few.

She was appointed to the Florida Advisory Council on Small and Minority Business Development by the Secretary for the Florida Department of Management Services and is the recipient of the 2018 Advocate of the Year- Supplier Diversity from the Florida State Minority Supplier Development Council (FSMSDC).

As an adjunct business instructor, Kathey has spent over a decade teaching various undergraduate and graduate courses including Leadership, Professional Writing, Marketing, Public Relations, Intro to Business, Management, Entrepreneurship, and Communications at several universities and colleges including the University of Florida - Warrington College of Business, Virginia Tech - Pamplin College of Business, Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), Savannah State University.

The author of two books on business success - 50 Billion Dollar Boss: African American Women Sharing Stories of Success in Entrepreneurship and Leadership (Palgrave Macmillan) and Implementing Supplier Diversity: A Driver of Entrepreneurship (Palgrave Macmillan), Kathey is a contributor to national platforms including OPEN Forum (American Express) and has been featured in numerous media outlets including Ebony, Black Enterprise, The Huffington Post, Sirius XM, Atlanta Journal Constitution and was the featured small business expert in ESSENCE magazine.

Kathey received her Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity (CPSD) credentials through the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).

 

Fred McKinney, Ph.D. - Instructor

Dr Fred McKinney

Dr. McKinney, aka Dr. Fred, is a global leader in corporate supplier diversity and minority business development. Previously, he was the President and CEO of the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development (GNEMSDC). After leaving the GNEMSDC, Dr. Fred led the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, the oldest academic program designed to train diverse business leaders. While at Tuck, he developed the Supplier Diversity Professional Leadership Program, a professional development program for corporate supplier diversity professionals. Dr. Fred has consulted with businesses throughout North America on supplier diversity and minority business development.

He has authored four books and published over 100 articles on minority business development and corporate supplier diversity. Dr. Fred writes a bi-monthly column for Hearst Connecticut newspapers, where he covers economic issues and is a regular columnist to DiversityPlus Magazine. And, he frequently contributes to books and journals on minority business development and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Fred has received numerous awards for his work in supplier diversity. In 2012, the U.S. Small Business Administration presented him with the Minority Small Business Champion Award. In 2013, he received the same award from the Connecticut office of the SBA. In 2017, he was presented with the Ronald H. Brown Leadership Award by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency, the organization’s highest award. In 2020, Dr. Fred was appointed by Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont to the Minority Business Initiative Advisory Board. Dr. Fred serves on several for-profit and not-for-profit boards.

Dr. Fred holds a B.A. in economics from U.C.L.A. and a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University. He has held full-time faculty positions at Brandeis University, the University of Connecticut, and Quinnipiac University, where he was the Carlton Highsmith Chair for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Director of the People’s United Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.


Supplier Diversity Leadership Certificate

This training provides tools and information needed for today's supplier diversity managers and supply chain professionals to strengthen their supplier diversity knowledge and proficiency, build an effective supplier diversity program and/or improve their existing supplier diversity program.  Earn a certificate that demonstrates leadership,  and proficiency in this field.


Continuing Education Credits

Earn 1.6 Continuing Education Units upon completion.

When registering for the workshop select the optional CEU fee of $35.00. At the end of the workshop, your Supplier Diversity Leadership Certificate will also include the number of CEU hours.
