Prepare. Grow. Transform.

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in the Home (CFOS/H)

This course is recognized by the US Department of Labor and is sanctioned by the Fiber Optic Association (FOA).

This in-person advanced specialist fiber optic 1-day training is for those students who will be directly involved in FTTH (Fiber to the Home). Further, it is an add-on course to their FOA (Fiber Optics Association) portfolio once they have successfully completed the 3-day, basic CFOT course. This advanced Fiber Optic Training combines lecture sessions and 85% hands-on activities to prepare the student to take the CFOS/H hands on and written exams that are sanctioned by the FOA and are given and graded on the same day.

This course provides an in-depth introduction to Fiber to the Home (FTTH) architecture, including the key components required to complete an FTTH fiber segment. Topics include specifications for cables, connectors, splices, and associated hardware. The curriculum features comprehensive discussions on FTTH design and installation standards, along with the technical, marketing, and financial considerations that support the implementation of FTTH solutions.

Prerequisite: Students MUST have successfully passed the basic fiber optic training course, (CFOT) within the preceding 12 months or have renewed their FOA membership within that time frame prior to attending the (CFOS/T), (CFOS/S), (CFOS/O) and/or the (CFOS/H) FOA Specialist courses offered in partnership with BDI Datalynk at UCF. There are no exceptions. Students are encouraged to register for all courses being offered at the campus with the understanding that the CFOT course must be successfully completed prior to attending any of the other subsequent courses.
